Flowery Fold Wood

Walk into Flowery Fold Wood and you're straight into proper Lancashire countryside - the sort of place that feels miles from anywhere but is actually just outside Clitheroe. It's a woodland space, the kind you'd stumble upon by accident if you weren't looking for it, with paths that wind through trees and enough greenery to shake off the road dust.

What makes it work is its lack of fuss. There are no visitor centres, no entrance fees, no one trying to sell you an ice cream. You just show up and walk. The woodland itself is calm rather than dramatic - good for a couple of hours if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks like Calder Farm or Peaks and Pods, less good if you're after a full day's outing. Families with young children will manage it fine; it's the sort of place where boredom doesn't really set in for the first hour or so, though there's nothing here to push it much beyond that.

If you're camping or glamping in Ribble Valley - Holgates is another option if you want something more structured - this works as a morning walk before heading into Clitheroe itself or exploring the bigger attractions in the area. Don't come expecting manicured trails or information boards. Come because you want woodland under your feet and don't mind if there's nothing remarkable about it. That's actually the whole point.
