Flip Out

You walk into Flip Out in Peterborough and immediately understand why families book half their school holidays around places like this. It's an indoor trampoline park - acres of bouncing surfaces, foam pits, dodgeball courts, and ninja warrior-style obstacles all under one roof. The energy is properly mental, especially on rainy days when half of Cambridgeshire seems to have had the same idea.

It works brilliantly for kids aged about five upwards, though teenagers often get more out of the parkour and advanced sections. Adults can supervise from the sidelines without feeling completely useless - some of the obstacle courses are genuinely tricky. Sessions run on a timed basis, and you'll want to book ahead rather than rock up hoping for a walk-in slot. Prices aren't cheap, but an hour or two keeps active children occupied in a way that actually tires them out, which counts for something.

If you're camping at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club or Nene Outdoors nearby, Flip Out makes for a solid rainy-day backup plan. It's less than four miles from either site, so you're not spending your entire afternoon driving. That said, it's not a patch on having the actual outdoors - use it as insurance, not the main event. For a proper break, combine it with time at Ferry Meadows itself, which has genuinely excellent facilities and sits right on the water.
