Flip Flop

Flip Flop is a modest lake in North Yorkshire that works best as a gentle detour rather than a destination in itself. The water sits quietly in the countryside, offering a bit of calm if you're passing through - the sort of place where you might stop for ten minutes to stretch your legs and let the kids feed the ducks if there are any about.

It's not dramatic or particularly large, so don't expect the kind of views that'll have you reaching for your camera. That said, if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Black Bull is closest at just under two miles away, or Swallowtails Glamping if you fancy something slightly different - then popping down to the water for a walk makes sense. Westgate Carr Farm and Lakeside Caravan Park are both within striking distance too.

The main appeal here is accessibility. You can reach it easily from your pitch, and a circuit round the perimeter will take most families under an hour. It's flat walking, which counts for something when you've got young legs or aging knees to consider. The surrounding countryside is pleasant enough - proper Yorkshire moorland just beyond the water's edge.

Bring binoculars if you're into birds. Bring a book if you just want somewhere quiet to sit. But don't plan your North Yorkshire trip around it. Flip Flop works as a bonus activity when you're camped nearby, not as a reason to book a week's holiday.
