Baboons

The Baboons sit on the North Yorkshire moors like something out of a fever dream - a collection of weathered rock formations that locals swear resemble primates if you squint hard enough and tilt your head the right way. Truth is, once someone's pointed out the likeness, you can't unsee it. The rocks themselves are proper striking against the moorland backdrop, especially when the light's low and shadows pool in the crevices.

It's a straightforward walk to reach them, nothing too strenuous, which makes it accessible for families wanting a bit of outdoor interest without the full day-hike commitment. The rocks offer decent photo opportunities and a legitimate reason to get off the main paths and explore the surrounding moorland properly. Geology enthusiasts and walkers tend to get more from the visit than casual tourists, if I'm honest - it's less "attraction" in the traditional sense and more of a geographical curiosity that rewards actually paying attention to the landscape.

No admission fees as far as I can tell, since it's just a natural landmark accessible across open moorland. Allow an hour or so to walk there, poke around, and soak in the views. The nearby caravan parks - Black Bull and Westgate Carr Farm are closest at under two miles - make it an easy add-on to a broader Yorkshire moorland break. Don't expect queues or visitor facilities. Just good walking country with an oddly watchful pair of rock formations keeping tabs on proceedings.
