Flask Lake

Flask Lake sits just outside Ripon, a proper little water feature that catches a lot of visitors off guard with how peaceful it is. The lake itself is small - maybe twenty minutes to walk around properly - but the walk is the thing: tree-lined paths, the water glinting through the branches, the kind of spot where you actually notice birdsong instead of thinking about your to-do list.

It's free to visit and there's no faffing about with opening times or admission fees. Bring a packed lunch and a decent pair of boots if it's been wet - the paths get muddy but nothing treacherous. Families with younger kids will find it manageable, though after the circuit you're done, so don't expect a full day's entertainment. Walkers and anyone after a quiet hour or so will get genuine value from it.

The lake works well as a half-day addition if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots like Camp Kátur - it's only 1.8 miles away, so close enough for a morning stroll before heading elsewhere. Pembroke Caravan Park is also within easy reach at under 6 miles, making this a natural add-on rather than a destination in itself. Visit early morning and you might actually have the place to yourself, which is worth the effort. The afternoon brings walkers and dog-owners, understandably, but it never gets rammed.
