Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve Car Park

The car park at Flanders Moss is your entry point to one of Scotland's most important lowland raised bogs - a landscape that looks properly alien if you're not used to it. You're stepping into a working nature reserve, not a manicured visitor centre, which means you get the real thing rather than a sanitised version. The moss itself sprawls across over 1,500 hectares of boggy terrain where the ground squelches underfoot and unusual plants thrive in conditions most of us would find hostile.

There's no entry fee that we can track down, and you can spend anywhere from an hour to a full morning depending on how deep into the reserve you venture. Bring waterproof boots - you'll absolutely need them. Best visited when it's dry; after heavy rain, large sections become nearly impassable.
