Flamingo Land Resort

Flamingo Land Resort is a proper family theme park in North Yorkshire - the sort of place that keeps kids entertained for a full day without bankrupting you. You'll find fairground rides ranging from gentle carousels for the little ones through to proper adrenaline stuff, plus a zoo section with animals dotted around the grounds. It's not Alton Towers, but that's rather the point. The park has that ramshackle charm of British attractions that have been adding rides and attractions piecemeal over decades.

Families with children aged five to fifteen will get the most from it. Younger kids won't struggle, but if you've got teenagers after serious thrills, you might find it a bit limited. The zoo element is a nice touch though - breaks up the park experience and stops it feeling like just another spin-and-scream venue.

Budget a full day to do it properly without rushing, maybe seven hours on site. The weather's a consideration - queues drop midweek and off-season, though North Yorkshire winters are unpredictable. If you're caravan-based nearby, the proximity is brilliant. Black Bull Caravan Park sits just 1.7 miles away, and Westgate Carr Farm and Swallowtails Glamping are similarly close. You could easily base yourself at one of the parks around Pickering and visit Flamingo Land as part of a wider trip without endless driving.
