What you get here is a genuine Bronze Age settlement - reconstructed roundhouses, timber posts preserved in waterlogged peat, and thousands of artefacts that tell the story of life here around 1300 BC.

The main draw is walking among those reconstructed buildings and trying to imagine daily existence back then. There's genuine Bronze Age timber - the real thing, pulled from the ground and painstakingly preserved. Kids tend to engage better with archaeology when they can see actual structures rather than museum cases, though under-tens might lose interest after an hour or so.

This works brilliantly as a half-day stop if you're basing yourself at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, which is only five miles away. That site's solid - rated 5 stars and gives you good access to the whole Peterborough area. Nene Outdoors Campsite is another option, though reviews suggest it's more basic.

Go midweek if you can; weekends draw school groups. Bring waterproof shoes if it's been wet - the ground around the Bronze Age structures gets boggy.
