Fisherlane Wood

Walk into Fisherlane Wood near Cranleigh and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - the kind with a real floor of leaf litter and overhead cover that actually blocks out the sky. It's not vast, but it doesn't need to be. What you get here is genuine forest feel without having to trek for hours.

The paths wind through decent-sized trees with enough open space between them that you don't feel hemmed in. On a quiet day - and most days here are quiet - you'll hear more birds than people. It's the sort of place where an hour vanishes without you noticing, or you can happily spend two if you've got the time. No dramatic views, no café, no facilities that I could find. Just woods, basically.

Families with younger kids will get a good walk out of it before boredom sets in. Older children who actually like being outside will find it decent for exploring. It's not a playground substitute, but it's far better than another indoor afternoon. Dog walkers absolutely love it here.

If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Glamping Holiday or Care Ashore are both close by, around three miles away - Fisherlane Wood makes a solid half-day outing. Pair it with a walk into Cranleigh town centre and you've got a proper day sorted. Free to access, no permits needed as far as I could tell. Worth fitting in between bigger attractions rather than planning a special trip, but don't skip it if you're in the area.
