Fingask Sawmill (disused)

The industrial remains scattered across Fingask are ghostly reminders of when this corner of Fife actually made things. A disused sawmill might not sound thrilling, but the bones of the Victorian-era operation tell a proper story if you bother to look - rusted machinery parts, crumbling stone foundations, and the overgrown wheel pit where water once drove the saws. You're essentially wandering through an archaeology site that nobody's properly tidied up, which is oddly more atmospheric than a museum display would be.

History enthusiasts and industrial heritage types will find it absorbing. Kids might poke around for twenty minutes before getting bored, unless they're the sort who like climbing on old bits. The site sits roughly halfway between Perth and the Fife coast, so it's workable as a detour rather than a destination in itself. There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no interpretation boards - so you'll need to use your imagination.

Practically speaking, access seems informal. There's no admission fee that we can establish, and no fixed opening hours - you turn up when you fancy. Allow an hour maximum unless you're genuinely into industrial archaeology. If you're staying at Snugs at Logie Farm a few miles away, this makes a decent walk-around on a dry afternoon. Not worth changing your route for, but absolutely worth the forty-minute potter if you're in the area exploring Perth's outskirts.
