Feathers McGraw statue

You'll spot this one fairly quickly - a bronze statue of a penguin in waistcoat and trilby hat standing in Preston town centre. Yes, really. It's Feathers McGraw, the pint-sized criminal mastermind from Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers, and locals are properly proud of their animated anti-hero.

There's not much to "do" here in the traditional sense. You turn up, you photograph it, you grin at the sheer daftness of having a penguin statue immortalised in a major Lancashire town. Kids absolutely love it though - it's instant recognition and a proper talking point if they've watched the film. Adults get the same kick, to be honest.

The statue sits in a central location, so you can easily work it into a town walk without going massively out of your way. Pair it with a proper wander around Preston's actual attractions and you've got yourself an afternoon. It's free, obviously, and available whenever you fancy.

If you're staying at Brylea Caravan Park or Smithills View Campsite - both just under 4 miles away - this makes an easy day trip into town. Don't expect to spend more than ten minutes at the statue itself, but if you've got Wallace and Gromit fans in the family, the novelty of standing next to Feathers McGraw is worth the drive. It's daft, it's quirky, and that's precisely why it works.
