Farm Hill rises up unexpectedly from the flat Cambridgeshire landscape, giving you proper views across the Fens if you're willing to make the climb. It's not a dramatic summit - nothing like the Peak District - but after miles of pancake-flat terrain around Cambridge, even a modest elevation feels like an achievement.

The hill itself is a straightforward walk, best tackled from nearby Cambridge if you're based in the city. There's something oddly satisfying about reaching the top and seeing the surrounding countryside sprawl out in all directions. It's the sort of place that rewards walkers and anyone who enjoys getting off the main tourist trail, though families with very small children might find the effort-to-views ratio a bit steep for what it is.

Timing-wise, give yourself a couple of hours including the walk and a breather at the top. Spring and early summer are cracking times to visit when the countryside's at its greenest. If you're staying at Shepreth Mill Caravan & Camping Holiday Park or Pightle Farm Campsite - both within five miles - Farm Hill makes a solid half-day excursion that won't eat into your whole day.

It's not going to keep you occupied for hours, and it's certainly not a destination attraction in itself. But as part of a wider Cambridgeshire ramble, particularly if you're mixing it with the Fens and the countryside around Cambridge, it's well worth the detour. The walk itself is pleasant, and you'll likely have the place fairly quiet.
