Faringdon Quaker Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends

A modest red-brick building on the edge of Faringdon that's been quietly welcoming Quakers since 1695. There's something rather moving about the simplicity of it all - plain wooden benches, whitewashed walls, and absolutely no fuss. You get the sense this is a place where the focus stays firmly on contemplation rather than decoration.

The meeting house works best for visitors interested in religious history or those wanting to understand how English Dissenters actually worshipped when it wasn't fashionable to do so. It's not a tourist attraction in the conventional sense - no gift shop, no audio guide - so come expecting quiet reflection rather than spectacle. Sunday morning meetings happen here still, and visitors are genuinely welcome to sit in.

Faringdon itself is a proper market town with decent pubs and a Tuesday market that's been running for centuries, so it's worth building a half-day around the area rather than making this a sole stop. Both Faringdon Grange and The Real Campsite sit just outside town, making either a convenient base if you're camping nearby. The Real Campsite gets better reviews and has that proper outdoorsy feel if that matters to you.
