Far Pasture Ponds

Three shallow ponds strung out across moorland near Stanley - nothing fancy, but genuinely peaceful if you catch the light right. It's the kind of place where you'll spot herons if you're lucky, and the water reflects the sky properly on a clear day. The main appeal is simply walking the perimeter and letting your shoulders drop. You won't find facilities or crowds, which is either the whole point or a reason to skip it depending on your mood.

Walkers benefit most from this one. The terrain is straightforward, no scrambling required, and you can make it as long or short a visit as suits you - half an hour for a quick loop, or take your time and settle on a bank with binoculars if birds interest you. Families with young kids might find it a bit sparse after twenty minutes unless they're already keen on nature spotting. It's the sort of place you'd combine with other walks in the area rather than ring-fence a morning for.

Far Pasture works as an easy detour if you're staying at Valley View Camping & Glamping just down the road. It's close enough for a pre-breakfast stroll or a wind-down after a longer hike. No entrance fee that I'm aware of, and you can access it from multiple points - just turn up. Best visited on a reasonably clear day when the water actually catches light rather than looking like a puddle.
