Fakenham Mill

The old mill stands right in Fakenham itself, a proper piece of Norfolk industrial heritage that doesn't demand hours of your time but rewards a quick stop. It's a genuine working watermill - or at least it was - and the structure tells you everything about how this market town kept itself fed and employed back in the day.

The building itself is the draw. Red brick, solid, and clearly built to last, it sits along the water channel that once powered the machinery. You can still make out the millstone inside, and if you're into that sort of thing - how grain actually got ground before electricity came along - there's real interest here. It's not flashy. No interactive displays, no gift shop theatre. Just the thing itself.

History types will get the most from a visit. Kids might manage twenty minutes before boredom sets in, unless they're the sort who find old machinery genuinely fascinating. It's free to look at from the outside, though access to the interior depends on who's managing it on the day.
