Errington Park

The wetland at Errington Park sits quietly on the edge of Northampton, the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. It's a proper nature reserve - reed beds, open water, scrubby bits where birds nest - and it genuinely feels separated from the town despite being close enough to hear traffic on a still day.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most from it. There are paths that let you move through without disturbing things too much, and if you bring binoculars and patience you'll spot warblers, egrets, and winter ducks depending on the season. Families with young children might find it a bit slow unless they're already into spotting things. There's no playground or café, which is either brilliant or a pain depending on your tolerance for quiet.

I'd allow a couple of hours to do it properly, though you can whip round in forty minutes if you're just after a walk. Spring and autumn are when it's busiest with migrating birds - autumn especially offers proper birding opportunities.

It's a solid add-on if you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites like Northants Caravan Site over at Covert Farm or Whitehall Farm CAMC members only CL. Neither is far away, so you could slot this in between other stuff without faffing about with long drives. Don't expect drama or views - just decent habitat and some decent birds if you're paying attention.
