Epsom Library

Epsom Library sits right in the town centre, a solid modern building that doesn't shout about itself but does exactly what it should. Inside, you'll find a proper working library - books everywhere, computers free to use, a decent children's section with story time slots, and enough quiet corners to actually get some work done. The staff are helpful without being intrusive, which is rarer than you'd think.

This isn't a tourist attraction in any meaningful sense. But if you're camped at Chessington World of Adventures Resort or one of the other parks dotted round this part of Surrey, and the weather's turned or the kids need a quieter morning, it's worth knowing about. The children's area has toys and puzzles alongside the books, so younger ones won't feel abandoned. Teenagers with devices will be fine anywhere. Anyone after a genuine rest from the theme parks can actually read something.

It's free to use - no admission charge - though you'll need to join if you want to borrow books. Takes about five minutes. The opening hours are generous, especially on Tuesday and Thursday when it stays open until 7pm. Saturday mornings can get busy with families, so if you want peace, go midweek. Allow an hour if you're just browsing, longer if you're settling in with a book. It's not the kind of place you'll rave about over dinner, but it's genuinely useful when you need it.
