Admission is free to wander the station and platforms, though train rides cost extra - usually around £15 for adults, less for children.

The location works well alongside a stay at The Wild Retreat at Redricks Lake, which sits just six miles away near Sawbridgeworth. It's the sort of place that appeals to a specific crowd rather than everyone, which is fine - if you're into industrial heritage and want to see how railway preservation actually happens hands-on, it's worth the drive.
