Eove's Wood (WT)

Walk into Eove's Wood and you'll understand why locals keep quiet about it. This Worcestershire forest sits just outside Pershore, offering proper woodland without the crowds you'd find at bigger nature reserves. The trees are dense enough that you lose sight of the road within minutes, and the paths wind through a genuine mix of mature woodland - oak, ash, and plenty of undergrowth that changes with the seasons.

It's a walker's wood rather than a destination with facilities or interpretation boards. You won't find a visitor centre or tea room, which is either refreshing or inconvenient depending on your mood. Most people can walk the main paths in an hour or so, though longer loops are possible if you explore properly. Bring a map or a decent sense of direction. Summer's busy with bird life and insects; autumn turns the forest floor into a carpet of leaves worth crunching through.

Families with older kids who can handle uneven ground will get more from it than those with pushchairs. Photographers come here for the light filtering through the canopy. Dog walkers love it. History enthusiasts might find the woodland's age interesting, though there's little signage explaining what you're looking at.

Staying at Bredon-Vale Caravan and Camping or Plum Tree Glamping puts you within easy reach for a morning walk before heading into Pershore itself. It's not a reason to plan a whole trip around, but if you're based nearby for a week, a quiet afternoon in the woods beats another tourist trap.
