Emsworth Park

The tidal marshes at Emsworth Park are where you actually notice you're standing on the edge of England. Wading birds work the mud flats with proper focus, and the waterside path loops you through salt meadow and reed bed without fuss. It's not dramatic, but it doesn't need to be - the quietness does the work.

The walk takes you past spots where you can genuinely see why people have lived along this coast for centuries. Emsworth itself sits right there, a proper working harbour town rather than some prettified seaside postcard, and the park feels like its natural extension. You'll see curlews, redshanks, and if you time it right at low tide, the mudflats open up properly.

Birdwatchers will spend two hours here without checking their watch. Families with young kids get a solid forty minutes of mudlarking and pointing at birds before boredom sets in. The path is flat and manageable, though it can be muddy - not exactly a walking boot situation, but trainers aren't ideal either.

If you're camping at The Old Dairy Farm Glamping just down the road, this is your morning stroll sorted. Concierge Camping is a bit further out but close enough for a pre-breakfast walk. The park itself doesn't charge, as far as anyone can tell - it's just there, Council-run and unpretentious. Best visited when the light's good and the tide's dropping. Winter brings more serious birders; summer brings families and their wellies.
