Emsworth Marina

The marina at Emsworth is one of those proper working harbours that actually feels alive. Moored boats bob against the quay, locals potter about with rope and tackle, and the whole place has that salty, slightly chaotic energy of somewhere real rather than somewhere designed for tourists.

You're looking at a tidal inlet really - not vast, but charming in a no-nonsense way. The walk along the waterfront is the thing. It's gentle, takes maybe twenty minutes to do the whole stretch at a dawdle, and the views across the water to the marshland beyond are genuinely lovely. On a clear day you can see right across the Chichester Harbour approach. Bring binoculars if you're into wading birds - there are herons, egrets, and on a good day you'll spot curlews and redshhanks poking about in the mud.

It's free to walk around, which is just as well since there's not much commercial stuff to pay for. The pubs nearby serve decent food and proper ale - local spots that haven't been tarted up. Families with younger kids might find it a bit quiet and samey after an hour, but if you've got teenagers or you're just after a peaceful stomp with good air and water views, it's well worth the visit.

Stubcroft Farm Campsite sits just five and a half miles inland, making this an easy trip if you're based there. Combine it with walking the wider Chichester Harbour trails and you've got a proper morning sorted.
