Elizabeth’s Wood

A proper woodland walk in the heart of the Cotswolds, Elizabeth's Wood sits just outside Notgrove and offers exactly what you'd want from a nature reserve - trees, peace, and room to stretch your legs without crowds. The woodland itself is mixed deciduous, the kind of place where you'll see bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the paths wind through at a gentle pace that works for families who aren't after anything too strenuous.

It's not dramatic or showy. There's no view to write home about, no dramatic escarpment or rare birds that'll have you glued to binoculars. What you get instead is a proper green break between the stone villages, somewhere to burn off an hour without overthinking it. Walkers and families with younger kids do well here; the paths are manageable and you're not battling muddy scrambles or steep climbs. Allow an hour or so, longer if you're the type to sit on logs and listen to things.

If you're camping at Bourton-on-the-Water Caravan and Motorhome Club just down the road, this makes a decent morning stop before heading into the village proper. Cotswolds Meadow Glamping is also close enough that it's worth combining with a wider loop - there are other walks and villages within easy reach once you're in the area. Free to access, no barriers, no visitor centre to queue at. Just turn up.
