Elistoun Hill

The walk up Elistoun Hill rewards you with proper views across the Forth valley - the kind of prospect that makes the climb feel worthwhile within minutes of starting. It's not a slog either, more of a brisk amble that takes less than an hour to the top if you're moving steadily.

Once you're up there, you get a genuine sense of being somewhere. The Ochil Hills roll out around you, and on a clear day the visibility stretches far enough to justify the effort. It's the sort of walk that suits families with older kids or anyone after a quick leg-stretcher without committing to a full mountain day.

The hill sits close to Clackmannan, making it easy to tack onto a broader day exploring the area. If you're based at Highland Gateway Glamping or Fossoway Cabins - both superb spots within six miles - this works perfectly as a morning mission before lunch somewhere local. The ground can be muddy in patches after rain, so decent boots matter more than you'd think from the height.

Not everyone will find it thrilling. The peak itself is modest, and if you're chasing dramatic panoramas or testing yourself on serious terrain, you might find it a touch anticlimactic. But for a genuine, unpretentious Scottish hill walk that delivers views without theatre or crowds, it does the job. Worth doing if you're in Perthshire anyway - don't plan a trip around it alone.
