Eldritch Hill

The walk up Eldritch Hill takes about an hour from Perth, and it's one of those Scottish hills that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards you properly once you're up there. The peak itself sits at a decent height without being brutal - the kind of climb that gets your legs working but won't leave you shattered. What strikes you most is the view across Perthshire once you crest the top. On a clear day you can see a fair distance, though I'll be honest, the summit itself is fairly modest - no dramatic cairn or dramatic rock formations, just the satisfaction of having made the effort.

This works best for walkers who like their hills straightforward rather than technical. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine; toddlers and pushchairs should probably stay home. History enthusiasts might find themselves intrigued by the landscape itself - Perthshire has layers of stories written across it - but don't expect ruins or monuments up here.

The nearest town is Perth, which makes this useful if you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby like Broadslap Farm or Greenhill Farm Glamping. You can knock this out in a morning and still have the afternoon free for exploring the area properly. There's no charge to walk it, naturally, and the access is straightforward from the Perth side.

Go early if possible. Late afternoon light can be lovely, but the midges come out, and you'll want decent daylight to find your way down cleanly. It's not a major attraction, but it's a solid hill walk that belongs on your Perthshire itinerary if you're the sort who likes getting up high without faffing about on a tourist trail.
