Eight Acre Covert

Eight Acre Covert is a small woodland tucked into the Suffolk landscape east of Leiston - the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. It's genuinely eight acres of mixed forest, proper enough for a decent walk without needing half the day. The trees create a bit of shelter, which matters when the East Anglian wind picks up off the coast nearby.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a destination in itself - you won't find manicured paths or information boards - but it's excellent for stretching your legs if you're staying at Beach View Holiday Park or Boundary Farm Glamping, both within easy reach. Bring boots if there's been rain; the forest floor gets boggy. Allow 45 minutes to an hour to properly explore without rushing. There's a real sense of being away from things, which is worth something.

Timing-wise, autumn is probably best when the light filters through properly and the undergrowth dies back a bit. Summer gets thick and buggy. Winter's fine if you dress for it.

Honestly, it won't be the highlight of a Suffolk holiday, but it fills a gap nicely between the coast and the bigger attractions inland. Take it as a chance to get off the caravan site and into something green rather than expecting a major outing. If you're the sort who enjoys a quiet woodland walk without fanfare, you'll find it straightforward enough.
