History enthusiasts might get something from the fact you're walking through landscape that's been contested and crossed for centuries, but there's no interpretive boards or visitor infrastructure up here - you come for the leg work and the views, not for hand-holding. On clear days the expanse is genuinely worth the effort; on grey ones it's a slog that teaches you something about Scottish weather and your own determination.

You'll want proper boots and a map. The nearest town is Forres, about 3-4 miles away depending on where you start, and it's a straightforward enough drive from there to find a parking spot.
