It's a proper working space that takes contemporary work seriously without the pretension you sometimes get.

You get painting, sculpture, installations - the usual contemporary mix - but what makes it worth the trip from nearby towns is that it doesn't feel like you're being lectured at. The space itself is intimate enough that you don't need to spend hours here, which suits a holiday well. A solid hour covers it without rushing.

Families with teenagers interested in art will get more from it than younger kids, who might find it a bit thin on interactive stuff. If you're staying at Hunters Quay Holiday Village just down the road, it's basically on your doorstep and costs nothing to pop in and have a look. Even if the current show doesn't grab you, the building and the waterfront location make it worth twenty minutes of your time.
