Dundonald Links is a proper championship-standard golf course sitting on the Ayrshire coast, and it's one of those places that makes you understand why Scotland takes its golf seriously. The course itself is a relatively new addition to the links circuit - opened in 2016 - but it's already earned respect among golfers who know their stuff. You're playing over genuine links terrain with all that entails: firm fairways, rough that'll eat your ball whole, and wind that changes your game by the hole.

This is absolutely for golfers first and foremost. If you don't play, there's not much to occupy you for long - no café culture or casual wandering like you'd get at some visitor attractions. But if you do play, you're looking at a full day easily, maybe five hours depending on your pace and how many times you're hunting in the rough.

Membership comes at a cost, and green fees for visitors aren't cheap, though they do offer various rates depending on when you book. Peak season is pricier. The landscape is classic Ayrshire - open, windswept, and honestly quite beautiful in its brutality.
