Duncan's Hill, Hillfort

The walk up Duncan's Hill rewards you with proper views across Perthshire, and the archaeological side of things genuinely adds something. This is an Iron Age hillfort - so you're standing on ground that's been strategically important for nearly 2,000 years. The defences are still visible if you know what you're looking at: banks and ditches that once made this a serious settlement.

It's a fairly straightforward walk from Erigmore, and most people will manage the ascent without fuss. The hilltop itself isn't massive, but the ramparts give you a real sense of how the ancients chose these positions for a reason - visibility in all directions, defensible, commanding. Archaeology enthusiasts will spend a good hour poking about and imagining what life looked like here. For casual walkers, maybe thirty minutes once you've reached the top and taken in the views.

Not a pay-as-you-go site as far as I can tell - just turn up and climb. Best on a clear day, obviously, as the whole point is the sightlines. If you're camping at Newmill Farm nearby, this makes an excellent morning outing before heading elsewhere in the region. The walk keeps you busy without demanding serious hiking boots, and the historical angle gives you something to think about beyond just "nice view". Worth the detour if you're already in the area and fancy a bit of Iron Age atmosphere with your exercise.
