Conlan Hill

The walk up Conlan Hill rewards you with views across Perthshire that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's not a major peak - the kind you'd plan a weekend around - but rather a proper local's hill that makes sense if you're already staying in the area around Erigmore.

The summit isn't dramatic. No cairn, no dramatic rock formations, just open moorland and the satisfying sense of having climbed something. The real draw is the vantage point across the Tayside landscape. On a decent day you can see right across the region, which matters if you're staying put for a week and want something different from the park.

It's the kind of walk that takes two to three hours round trip depending on your pace and where you start from - nothing technical, more about steady legs and reasonable weather. Families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger children might find it a long slog without much to look at from a kid's perspective once you're on the hill itself.

If you're camped at Erigmore Holiday Park or Inver Mill Farm just down the road, this is the sort of outing that gets you out for a morning while still leaving the afternoon free for whatever the park offers. Corriefodly Holiday Park is only a touch further away, so it works just as well from there. Go when the weather forecast looks solid - the views are everything here, and low cloud turns it into a trudge.
