Drummilling Hill

The walk up Drummilling Hill takes about forty minutes if you're not rushing, and the effort pays off with proper views across North Ayrshire. From the summit you can see right across to the coast on a clear day - the Firth of Clyde spreads out below, and on good weather you might catch sight of Arran floating on the horizon.

It's not a dramatic peak by Scottish standards, more a solid hill walk than a scramble. The terrain is manageable for families with older kids and regular walkers, though the final push gets a bit steep. Come in autumn when the moorland colours shift to bronze and rust, or spring when everything's greening up. Avoid it after heavy rain when the paths turn boggy.

The nearest proper town is Ayrshire itself, which means you could base yourself at Parkdean Resorts Sandylands Holiday Park just down the road - a solid spot for a week if you're after coastal walks mixed with inland hills. You'll want two or three hours total for the climb and a proper look around at the top. Bring a wind-breaker; it's exposed up there and the weather can turn.

This isn't a "tick it off" attraction. It's the kind of walk where you actually notice things - the light changing across the valley, the way the wind catches the grass. Worth doing if you're in the area and like moving landscapes more than sitting ones.
