Drumderfit Hill

Drumderfit Hill rises abruptly from the landscape just outside Inverness, offering one of the quickest hill walks in the area if you're after views without the full commitment of a bigger peak. The summit sits at around 300 metres - hardly Alpine, but the vantage point over the Moray Firth and back towards Inverness itself makes the climb feel worthwhile.

It's a straightforward ascent, probably 45 minutes up if you're moving steadily, with decent paths most of the way. You won't find crowds here. The real appeal is for walkers who want to tick off something meaningful without spending a whole day in the hills, or families with older kids who fancy a proper walk without the slog. The views across the water towards the Black Isle are genuinely good on a clear day - bring a camera.

The walk works well as part of a wider Highland break. You're close enough to Inverness town centre for supplies, yet far enough out to feel like you've escaped. If you're staying at Coulmore Bay or Bunchrew Caravan Park, this is easily accessible - no long drive required. Spring through autumn is best; winter can make the path boggy and visibility iffy.

There's no visitor infrastructure on the hill itself, so come prepared with water and something to eat. Start early to catch the light and avoid the midges on warmer evenings. Honestly, if you're passing through Inverness and have a spare couple of hours, it's well worth the detour.
