Drumaldrace

Drumaldrace sits at 668 metres above the market town of Hawes, a proper fell that rewards the climb with serious views across Wensleydale. The walk up is steep but manageable - most people manage it in under an hour from the road - and the summit gives you the whole valley spread below you like a map.

It's the kind of peak that works for walkers who want something real without needing ropes and harnesses. Families with older kids will find it doable, though younger ones might grumble on the push to the top. The views make it worthwhile: on a clear day you can see for miles across the Yorkshire Dales, with Pen-y-ghent and Whernside visible on the horizon. Bring a wind-resistant jacket - the summit exposure means it's properly fresh up there.

There's no visitor centre or facilities on the fell itself, so come prepared with water and snacks. The ascent typically takes 45 minutes to an hour depending on fitness; allow two to three hours for the round trip if you want time to sit about at the top. Best tackled on a settled day - the moorland gets bleak when wet.
