You can walk the perimeter and see what you see. The banks are accessible in most places, and there's something calming about the scale of it - water for thousands of people, power lines humming overhead, the industrial reality of keeping taps flowing. It's not dramatic. It won't stop you dead with a gasp. But if you're into landscape photography or just fancy a quiet hour away from crowds, it delivers.

The nearby Down to Earth Wild Camping spot (just over 5 miles away) makes this a natural pairing for a longer afternoon. Pop over here first, do a lap of the water, then head back to base for the evening. Walkers will find the perimeter manageable - no scrambling required - though the reward is contemplation rather than views from on high.
