Dochrie Hill

The walk up Dochrie Hill from Perth is straightforward enough, and on a clear day the views back towards the city and across the Tay Valley are genuinely worth the effort. It's not a massive undertaking - most people will manage the ascent and descent in under two hours - but it's steep enough to keep things interesting without being punishing.

What you get at the top is a proper vantage point. The summit itself is modest, nothing fancy, but the panorama justifies the leg work. On a good day you can see the Ochil Hills rolling away to the west, and the landscape opens up in all directions. It's the sort of walk that appeals to families with older kids and anyone who wants a proper hill experience without committing to a full day in the mountains.

The route is reasonably well-trodden, which means navigation isn't an issue, though proper boots are sensible given the Scottish weather. Midweek visits tend to be quieter than weekends. The hill works well as a morning or afternoon excursion while staying at one of the nearby parks - Maycroft Retreat and Greenhill Farm Glamping are both well-regarded bases within a few miles of Perth town centre.

It's free to access, naturally, and there are no facilities at the top itself. Bring a flask and something to eat. Not the most dramatic peak in Perthshire, but a solid half-day outing that rewards a bit of sweat with genuine views.
