Disgwylfa

The walk up Disgwylfa rewards you with one of those views that makes the climb worthwhile - proper panoramic stuff across the Carmarthenshire valleys. It's not a dramatic peak by any stretch, but the vantage point is genuinely good, especially on clearer days when you can see for miles across the rolling landscape.

This is one for walkers rather than casual visitors. The approach isn't technically difficult, but it's a proper hike - allow a couple of hours there and back depending on your fitness and which route you take from the nearest approach near Swansea. The summit itself is fairly exposed, so wind can be a factor, and you'll want decent boots if the ground's been wet.

Historically minded types will appreciate that you're walking in an area thick with Welsh heritage, though Disgwylfa itself is more about the landscape than specific landmarks. Families with older kids and regular walkers will get the most from it. Younger children might find it a bit of a slog for what's essentially a moorland walk.

The timing matters here - early morning or late afternoon light transforms the views, and you'll avoid any weekend crowds that build up on popular routes. Summer's the obvious choice, but spring walking here is crisp and clear if you don't mind the wind.
