Dinefwr Castle Museum

The castle itself is the real draw here - a proper medieval fortress sitting above Llandeilo with views across the Towy Valley that'll stop you mid-stride. The museum sits within the grounds and walks you through centuries of the place: medieval warfare, the families who owned it, how it fell into ruin and got rescued. You're looking at artefacts, old documents, some reconstructions of what life was like inside those walls.

Historyophiles and castle enthusiasts will get hours out of this. Families with older kids enjoy the mix of exploring the grounds and dipping into the exhibits - though there's not enough here to keep under-tens occupied for a full day on its own. Walkers passing through the valley should absolutely make the detour; the approach itself is scenic.

The site is free to access, though hours vary by season so check ahead before you go. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it seriously - longer if you're planning to wander the grounds properly and soak in the views. It pairs well with a stay at Ravenscroft Retreats or Gelli Glamping nearby; both are close enough for an easy morning visit before heading to Laugharne or exploring the wider Carmarthenshire countryside.

Bit of a climb to reach the top, so wear decent shoes. The museum building is modern and well-kept, thankfully - none of that cold stone ruin experience.
