The turnstyle at Dibgate is one of those walking landmarks that doesn't announce itself loudly but proves genuinely useful when you're exploring the forests around Folkestone. It's a proper forest gate - the kind that lets walkers through while keeping livestock in check - and it marks a junction point between several woodland paths that crisscross this part of Kent.

What makes it worth knowing about is less the structure itself and more what it signals: you're entering genuinely nice walking country. The forest here is dense enough to feel like proper countryside, not a token tree-planting scheme, and the paths are well-trodden without being rammed. Come on a weekday morning and you'll have it largely to yourself.

This suits anyone after a decent leg-stretcher more than families wanting a specific destination. There's no cafe, no visitor centre, no timetable to work around - just woodland and the chance to ramble. Allow an hour or two depending on how ambitious you're feeling, and wear decent boots if there's been rain. The ground gets boggy.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Black Horse Farm or Varne Ridge are closest - this makes for an easy escape into the greenery without needing to drive far. It's also close enough to Port Lympne Safari Park (5.3 miles) that you could combine a proper walk here with something more structured if you've got restless kids in tow.
