Devil's Table

The Devil's Table is exactly that - a flat-topped rock formation that juts out from the Cotswold escarpment like nature's own altar, offering sweeping views across the Severn Vale towards the Welsh hills.

Walkers will love the sense of achievement after the steep climb through beech woods from the village below. The approach isn't for pushchairs, mind you - it's a proper uphill slog that'll get your heart pumping. But the payoff is worth every huffed breath.

Families with older children (say, eight and above) will find plenty to explore once they reach the top. The rock itself is fun to scramble over, though parents should keep a close eye on little ones near the edges. Allow a good two hours for the round trip from Cheltenham, including time to catch your breath and take photos.
