Dentonside Wood

Walking into Dentonside Wood feels like stepping into proper Lake District country without the crowds. This forest sits just outside Wigton in Cumbria, a solid choice if you're camping or glamping nearby at Caldbeck Camping or one of the Carrock pods down the road.

The wood itself is a straightforward forest walk - mixed woodland with good paths and the kind of green quiet that makes you forget about signal for a bit. It's not dramatic. There are no waterfalls or fell views. What you get instead is space to move without tripping over other visitors, which frankly matters more on a British bank holiday than it should.

Families with younger kids will manage it fine. The paths are reasonably level and you can walk for as long as you want without feeling pressured - twenty minutes works just as well as two hours.
