Davis's Boatyard

Davis's Boatyard sits right on the water in Poole, one of those proper working marinas where you'll see serious sailors prepping their boats rather than crowds of day-trippers. It's the real thing - wooden hulls being maintained, ropes everywhere, the smell of salt and diesel. If you're into boats, this is where you come to watch people who actually know what they're doing. The setting along Poole Harbour is genuinely lovely, and there's a working quality to it that keeps it from feeling touristy.

You won't find much in the way of formal attractions here - no gift shop, no café to speak of - which is rather the point. This is a boatyard, not a leisure facility. Most appeal will be to families with older kids interested in maritime life, or anyone who appreciates watching skilled work happen. You can wander the perimeter for free and watch the activity, though access into the working areas will be limited for obvious reasons. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour unless you're genuinely fascinated by boat maintenance, in which case you could happily spend longer. Early morning tends to be busier with working boats coming and going.

If you're based at Hunter's Moon Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just outside Poole, Davis's makes an easy morning visit before heading into town proper for lunch. It's the sort of place that gives you real flavour of a working Dorset harbour town rather than the polished seaside experience elsewhere.
