Darnycaip

A proper slog up to Darnycaip gets you a peak with genuine views across the Stirling area and down towards Glasgow. It's not the Cairngorms - don't expect dramatic alpine scenery - but on a clear day the ridge walk rewards the effort. The climb itself is steady rather than brutal, taking most walkers around two hours up from the lower ground, with rough paths and the occasional scramble to keep things interesting.

This is one for walkers with some experience. You won't find cafes at the top or much in the way of interpretation boards. The real appeal is solitude and the sense of having earned the vista. Kids will manage it if they're keen on hills, but younger legs might find the descent harder on the knees than the ascent.
