Darch's Wood

The appeal here is straightforward: ancient woodland, fresh air, no entrance fee, no queues. Go when it hasn't been raining for days and you'll appreciate the dry paths. Autumn's probably the best call, when the canopy colours actually mean something. Skip it if you want manicured trails and signposted points of interest - this is about walking quietly through trees and remembering why that's enough.
