Dalinlongart Hill

The walk up Dalinlongart Hill takes about an hour from Dunoon, and it's one of those summits that rewards effort without demanding mountaineering skills. You're looking at decent views across the Firth of Clyde once you're up there - the kind of vista that makes the leg ache worthwhile on a clear day.

It's a proper hill walk rather than a casual stroll, so bring proper shoes and expect steep sections. The terrain is rough grass and bracken, which can be boggy in wet weather. Allow a good couple of hours if you're not moving fast, and tick it off early in the day when the light's best for photographs.

Families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger ones might struggle with the gradient and loose ground, so judge your crew honestly. It's not a walk for the very young unless you're carrying them for stretches.

Staying at one of the nearby parks - Hunters Quay Holiday Village or Stratheck are both within striking distance - makes sense if you're basing a week around Dunoon's coastal walks. The hill fits nicely into a morning outing before heading down to the promenade for fish and chips.

There's no charge to climb it, and no facilities on the hill itself. Bring water. The real appeal here is the sense of having earned the view rather than just stumbling upon it.
