Daff Glen Inverkip

A steep walk down through broadleaf woodland brings you to a small burn-side clearing where the water's properly lively. Daff Glen is one of those reserves that rewards a bit of effort - it's not a casual stroll, and that's rather the point. The glen itself is sheltered enough to feel like you've stepped into somewhere genuinely wild, which is rare this close to Dunoon.

Walkers will get more from it than families with toddlers, to be frank. The descent is fine going down, but your knees will know about the climb back up, especially if you're carrying a preschooler. The woodland flora changes through the seasons, and in spring the banks come alive with wildflowers. Birdwatchers sometimes spot redstarts and treecreepers among the mature trees.

The walk itself takes perhaps an hour round trip from the car park, depending on how long you linger. There's no visitor centre or facilities, so bring what you need. It's free to visit and genuinely quiet - you won't be battling crowds.
