Cruach Gille Bheagain

The walk up Cruach Gille Bheagain isn't long, but it packs proper views across the Kintyre Peninsula and out towards the islands. Starting from near Tarbert, you're looking at a straightforward hill walk that takes a couple of hours - nothing technical, just a steady climb through moorland that opens up into something rather special at the top.

On a clear day the perspectives are genuinely impressive. You can see right down to the Mull of Kintyre, and if you're lucky the weather plays ball, you get views across to Jura and beyond. The path is well-trodden enough that you won't get lost, though it's bog-standard moorland terrain so waterproof boots are a solid idea.

This one's brilliant for anyone staying at The Gather or Tarbert Holiday Park who wants to stretch their legs without committing to a full mountain expedition. Families with older kids will manage it fine - the younger ones might find it a bit of a slog on the way up, but once they crest the top it tends to feel worth the effort. Walkers using Tarbert as a base will appreciate that it's quick and uncomplicated, leaving you time to explore the town itself or push on to other spots in Argyll.

Go early if you can, especially in summer. The weather here changes quickly, and morning light tends to be sharper. Allow three hours total to be comfortable - two up and down, plus time to sit about and actually enjoy what you've walked for.
