Crickmarren Wood

The woodland paths through Crickmarren Wood feel properly tucked away, which is exactly why locals keep coming back. You're looking at dense forest that drops away steeply in places, with streams running through the bottom and enough tree cover that it stays cool even on warm days. The walk itself takes anywhere from forty minutes to two hours depending on which trails you pick, and the ground can get boggy after rain so decent boots are worth it.

This isn't the sort of place you come for dramatic views or a quick photo stop. Walkers and families with older kids will get the most from it - there's something satisfying about following a proper woodland trail that actually feels like a proper woodland, not a theme-park version. The steep sections mean you're working for it, which somehow makes the quieter spots more rewarding. Birds are decent too if you're into that.

The wood sits close enough to Pembroke that you could easily combine it with other Pembrokeshire walking, and it pairs well with coastal routes nearby. If you're staying at Eco Escape Campsite just down the road, this would be your go-to for stretching your legs without driving anywhere. No facilities that I could find, so bring water and don't expect a café at the end. It's free to access and worth the detour if you've got proper footwear and don't mind getting properly muddy.
