Crescent Pot

You'll need a head torch and a decent pair of boots for this one. Crescent Pot is a proper caving experience in the limestone country near Carnforth - not some sanitised show cave, but a genuine pothole where you're scrambling through tight passages and feeling genuinely underground. The entrance is unremarkable from above, but once you're in, it opens up into chamber after chamber with smooth rock walls worn by water over millennia. Bring a friend. The descent is manageable for anyone reasonably fit, but you're crawling through narrow bits and negotiating short vertical sections that feel a lot bigger when you're actually in them. It's free to visit, though you'll want proper equipment - not just any torch will do in complete darkness. The whole thing takes a couple of hours if you're being careful and not rushing. Water runs through it even in dry months, so expect damp. This is genuine caving, not a tourist attraction. If you're staying at Primrose Glamping Pods nearby, it's a cracking alternative to more conventional attractions - kids who enjoy getting muddy and don't mind tight spaces will be buzzing about it for weeks. Just don't come expecting vast cathedral-like caverns. Crescent Pot is intimate, technical, and absolutely worth the effort if you're serious about exploring rather than just ticking boxes.
