Creech Wood

The woodland paths through Creech Wood offer a proper escape from Waterlooville's suburban edge, though you'll want to manage expectations about what you're getting. This is a modest nature reserve - nothing dramatic, no dramatic viewpoints or rare species on display boards - but it's the sort of place where you might actually spot something if you're patient. Bluebells in spring, various woodland birds, and the occasional deer if luck's on your side.

It works best for a couple of hours mid-morning, when the light filters through the trees nicely and you've got a decent chance of spotting wildlife. Families with young kids might find the trails a bit samey after the first thirty minutes, though it's easy enough to navigate without losing anyone. The main appeal is simply walking somewhere green and relatively quiet - something in short supply near Waterlooville itself.

No entry fee, which is just as well given there are no facilities to speak of. Wear proper boots if you've had rain. Summer feels slightly pointless thanks to the thick canopy and midges, but autumn's genuinely pleasant.
