Creag Liomha

The walk up Creag Liomha is a proper hill rather than a mountain, which means it's honestly perfect if you're based at one of the caravan parks around Dunoon and want something achievable without a full day's commitment. The peak itself sits about 350 metres up, and the views across the Firth of Clyde are genuinely worth the leg work - on a clear day you're looking out towards the Isle of Bute and beyond.

It's a straightforward ascent from the Dunoon side, taking most people between an hour and ninety minutes depending on fitness. The terrain is typical Scottish hillwalking - paths that are there if you know where to look, boggy bits when it's wet, and absolutely nothing dramatic. Take it slowly and you'll spot roe deer fairly regularly. Families with teenagers will find it manageable; younger kids might struggle with the muddy sections.

The real appeal here is that it ticks a box without dominating your day. Park at Glenfinart Caravan Park side or work it into a broader Dunoon itinerary - perhaps combine it with a walk along Holy Loch or a visit to nearby coastal spots. There's no admission fee, no facilities at the top, so bring water and a packed lunch if you fancy sitting up there.

Go on a dry day after settled weather; the bog drains better and the views stay clear. Worth the effort if you're after that hill-walking feeling without anything too serious.
